Obama: U.S. Military Ready to Face the North Korean Aggression

Washington - President Barack Obama to give directives to the United States military to coordinate with South Korean military. This is to ensure readiness to prevent North Korean aggression.

The White House said the United States strongly supported the plan of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak to punish North Korea over the sinking of a naval ship.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, the White House urged North Korea to apologize and change its behavior. "We support President Lee demanded immediate apology from North Korea and punish those responsible for the attack, and most importantly stop behaving aggressively and threatening," Gibbs said.

Gibbs added that American support for the defense of South Korea is firm. "The President has directed military commanders to coordinate closely with partner readiness of the Republic of Korea to prevent future aggression," he said. "Obama and Lee agreed to meet at the G20 summit in Canada next month."

Last weekend, an international team of researchers accused the North Korean torpedo, had killed 46 South Korean sailors. This incident is one of the deadly clashes between the two countries since the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

United States has 28,000 troops on South Korea to provide military support.
